Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy is located south-west of Nancy. The west ends on a plateau culminating at an altitude of 400 metres, the Brabois plateau, while the east descends towards the Meurthe valley at an altitude of 200 metres without ever reaching it.

The hillsides and orchards joining the plateau and the valley are the historic site of the town where the old village is located.

The town is home to the Nancy-Brabois Technopole on its heights. Hospital, university and economic infrastructures are concentrated there.
